Mystery Tour

"People of Chilmark", Thomas Hart Benton, 1920
prompt from Tess Kincaid for Magpie Tale #73

Together,

worlds apart,

all silent

commotion.

They cannot see each other,

don’t know where they go.

I know him –

the god in their midst;

no helmet,

and no wings;

a staff with twining serpents

at his feet instead.

A journey

to the afterlife -

eternal

mystery

tour from heartless realm - where we

never can forget.

  8. Lovely work with thought and symbol--the downcast/averted eyes here are finally explained, or at least given one universally applicable explanation, as I found the picture perplexing and full of questions.

  9. this was a perplexing photo in so many ways-- you did a lovely job-- perhaps thinking in a way of the River Styx... I see so much idealism in the Greek cast of the bodies and when you sit back from the painting, so much roundness. ??? Thanks for stopping by! xxxj
