J-class Eel

Endeavor, Lino Tagliapietra, Columbus Museum of Art
Photo prompt for Tess Kincaid's Magpie Tales
Sleek Beauty
in midnight blue hull;
a swift race,
open seas,
Golden Era J-class yacht;
glorious glass eel .

a mud flat ending
in Epney;
drowned in the Severn River,
beat by a Rainbow.

Pot of gold,
America's Cup;
the story
is old now.
Dig deeper down through wet sand;
climb upstream like eels.

  1. this has a great pop pop feel jumping image to image...crawling upstream like an eel as well..intriguing write...

  2. I can hear it too Brian.

    Fav lines:
    Dig down deeper through wet sand.
    Climb up stream like eels.

    Nice to meet you~

  3. This sounds like the description of a specific incident, a specific race, and the boat is lovingly described as a person. I also like the short phrases and the columnar structure--it all plays off itself for a very vivid piece.

  4. Glass eels...and that's just what they look like, too, if I am thinking of the right boats.

  5. These boats are kin to the Lord of the Waves, animals of lust and fury and wave-mastery ... You had me at "midnight blue hull." Glass eels, indeed, slithering around the wet roots of the garden of paradise. - Brendan

  6. I love your take on the prompt, you have a very cool style

  7. Ann,
    This is brilliant! The image does resemble sleek rainbow colored glass eels ...

    1934, Rainbow defeats Endeavor ... America's Cup!

  8. Hip and earthy at the same time. I love it, Ann.

  9. The pop I hear is the wind
    snapping the j-class sails.
    You get the prize for originality
    this week, Miss Ann, with this
    stunning departure, this take
    on glass morphed with j-class.
